Laboratory bred gemstone is a gemstone that engineers cultivate completely consistent with the composition and characteristics of natural gemstone by analyzing and mastering the chemical composition, physical characteristics and natural growth factors of natural gemstone, and using natural gemstone as a sample in the laboratory to simulate the natural formation environment of natural gemstone. Laboratory bred gemstones meet the requirements of natural gemstones in terms of chemical composition and physical characteristics, which are consistent with natural gemstones. The color saturation and clarity can be comparable to the top quality of natural gemstones.
Laboratory to create red sapphire, more commonly used are flame melting method, flux method and hydrothermal method. Of these, flame fusion is the cheapest method of creating any gemstone, while hydrothermal is the most expensive and a breeding technique that mimics the closest natural gemstone formation. The hydrothermal process, in which minerals are subjected to high temperatures and pressures in a kind of "pressure cooker," well mimics the environment in which red sapphires are naturally formed.
